Description:
Scorpio is about to have his first birthday! On November 6th Scorpio will officially be one year old and technically will no longer be a puppy. Since he now weighs 80 pounds, he hasn’t been puppy-sized for some time, but his energy and enthusiasm continue at puppy levels. He is an exceptionally curious and intelligent boy who has learned to respond to over twenty commands ranging from the standard “sit,” “come,” and “down” to the more exotic “dance” and “wave.” He has even followed his foster dad up a six foot ladder into a crawl space (where he learned that it is easier to climb UP a ladder than DOWN it).
In addition to knowing many commands, Scorpio has also learned how a well mannered dog should behave. Initially, his youth and curiosity got him into trouble and resulted in some household damage, counter surfing and other inappropriate behaviors. Now, he has a much better understanding of what is expected of him, and though he still wants to check everything out, he has essentially learned what is acceptable and what is out of bounds. Of course he is still a young and playful boy, so he will need some occasional reminding.
Scorpio is fully housetrained and will let you know when he needs to go outside. He walks well on a leash and would make a great running companion. Scorpio loves children, but his youthful exuberance and herding instincts make him too rough for young kids. When he is engaged in active play, it is easy to mistake a young child for an unruly sheep and he may mouth or nip. He is good with other active playful dogs, though he can be protective of his food. He has made progress in this area and his foster family can feed him with the other dogs as long as they are present to supervise. In a new or unfamiliar situation, it would still be preferable to feed him separately.
Because Scorpio is highly curious and active, it is imperative that his home should have a fenced yard. This will give him a place to run, play and work off some of his youthful enthusiasm. His forever home should also include either another young, active dog or humans who are very active and willing to include Scorpio in those activities. Dogs as energetic and intelligent as Scorpio need to be challenged both intellectually and physically. He would be a great candidate for fly ball or agility.
For this bright, happy, collie boy the world is full of exciting possibilities. Every day is an opportunity to meet new people, explore new worlds and learn new things. But for Scorpio, the most exciting new world is the one that will include his forever home. If you are looking for a smart, loving, playful collie, Scorpio is ready to bring you a lifetime of joy and adventure.
