Description: They say that great things come in small packages and that is certainly true about Sebastian. Though he is a little collie at only 54 pounds, he is feisty, energetic and full of personality. He came to MWCR from a shelter in Iowa where he was taken after having been found as a stray. It is possible, since he came from an area that experienced a lot of flooding this year, that Sebastian lost his home and family during that period. When he was first found, he was hungry, frightened and infested with fleas. He was understandably wary and too nervous to even wag his tail when he first arrived at his foster home. Today, however, all that has changed. He is flea free; his skin and coat are recovering from his homeless days; and his tail could qualify as an alternative energy source since it is constantly wagging. Though he is already a handsome boy, he will be a real head-turner once his fur is fully grown in.

Sebastian’s foster mom believes that at some time in his past he was a much loved family pet. He has beautifully tipped ears and excellent manners, though it is sometimes difficult for him to contain his joy long enough to “sit” on command. He loves going for walks and is generally good on a leash though, again, enthusiasm sometimes gets the better of him.

Sebastian’s foster home includes cats, kids and several other dogs. He gets along well with the cats and he is fine with the more submissive of the family dogs. He does, however, get into occasional spats with the alpha collie and is food aggressive with that “head” dog. His foster mom separates them at feeding time, and Sebastian has no problem sharing a meal with the calmer, more submissive dog.

The greatest joy of Sebastian’s life, however, is children. When one of the little boys at his foster home sits down to pet him, Sebastian is so thrilled that he almost swoons! Though he has lots of energy, he is also a lover and would be perfectly happy to spend his days snuggled up with his foster mom or one of the children.

Sebastian’s ideal forever home could include cats, possibly another submissive dog, and definitely children. A fenced yard is always desirable; though in the right circumstances, it might not be mandatory. This happy little collie is one small package that will bring his forever family a big bundle of love.
