Description:
Tillie is an exceptionally sweet little collie who came to MWCR from a shelter in Iowa where she had been surrendered with Scotch and Callie. Prior to being left at the shelter she had not been well cared for and when she came to us she was very thin (only 40 pounds) and had developed kennel cough. Today she is fully recovered from her kennel cough and is eating well and gradually gaining weight. She will always be a petite little girl, but now she is well on her way to a happy, healthy weight.
It is hard to imagine why anyone would let a loving, well behaved girl like Tillie go. She is fully house trained, crate trained, playful and friendly. Her foster mom crates Tillie when she goes out because with four young dogs in the house there is always the chance of someone getting into trouble. However, if she lived in a home with fewer canine siblings to lead her astray, she would probably not need to be crated. She rides well in the car, tolerates grooming without complaint and walks daintily on a leash. She joins in with the other dogs when they bark, but isn’t a particularly “chatty” girl.
Tillie is friendly and playful with the other dogs at her foster home and does not try to be dominant or assertive. She is curious about both the cats and the bunnies, but is not hostile or threatening with them. Although Tillie’s foster family does not have young children, she is very affectionate with their older kids and her foster mom believes she would be equally good with young ones. When she first arrived at her foster home, Tillie jumped up and gave the 15 year old daughter a “hug” by wrapping her paws around her waist. Now she will even do this on command.
Tillie would be a wonderful companion for almost any family. She could live with other dogs but would also be happy as an only dog. Ideally, she would like a fenced yard (she sometimes wanders off but always comes when called), but in the right circumstances this might not be necessary. She would be fine with kids, cats and other small pets. Her only real requirement is love, love, and more love. Even when she is playing with the other dogs, she regularly checks back with her people just to make sure they are still there and that everything is okay. If you would like Tillie to keep an eye on you, come and get this little love bug!
