Description: Bonnie Blue – affectionately known as Bon-Bon by her many friends – is a gorgeous little blue merle collie who came to MWCR as an owner surrender. She is a very sweet little miss who loves adults, other dogs and children. She is really still a puppy and very much enjoys the rough and tumble play sessions that she has with the other collie at her foster home. On these occasions she seems to forget that she is a dainty little girl and not a member of the Green Bay Packers. Bon-Bon gets along fairly well with cats, though she would prefer them to be a bit more playful, and would definitely enjoy showing them the joys of the chase game. She is easily called off by her foster mom, but would probably do best with dog savvy cats that would stand their ground.

Although she has not been exposed to children at her foster home, the person who surrendered her said that Bon-Bon loves kids, but like any active, larger dog, she could be intimidating to little ones. She is a very loving, sweet natured girl who would probably be best with older kids who would not be knocked down if she jumped up. Her foster mom is working with her on the jumping, but puppy enthusiasm can still get the better of her.

Bonnie knows the basic commands including “sit,” “lie down” and “shake” and is working on some of the tougher ones like “wait.” She is also busily practicing her leash walking skills but finds it difficult not to pull when something interesting like a rabbit, squirrel or other dog goes by. Bon-Bon is filled with puppy curiosity and when she is pursuing something interesting, she becomes deaf to the calls of her foster mom. For this reason, her forever home must either have a securely fenced yard, or someone who is committed to training her in recall. In her current state, she should never be off leash, except in a fenced enclosure. She is crate trained and is working on her house training. Though she will bark during play and will chime in when her foster brother is barking, she is generally quiet for a collie.

Bon-Bon has a lovely silky coat that must be brushed regularly to avoid matting. She doesn’t particularly enjoy brushing but will tolerate short, regular sessions. She loves to go for car rides and will eagerly jump right in. She will spend hours working on her raw hide chews and really enjoys treats. She is a clever girl and a quick learner – particularly when she knows a tasty treat will be her reward.

Bonnie is a happy, healthy, loving, little girl who is looking for a forever home where she can be the center of someone’s world. She enjoys playing with other dogs, but would also relish the attention that she would get as an only dog. She would be fine with older kids and dog savvy cats. If you’re looking for a calorie free sweet, you couldn’t do better than Bon-Bon.
