Description:
Carlton’s time was about up when a dedicated rescuer pulled him from an over crowded shelter in northern Minnesota. This devoted animal lover contacted MWCR and within days Carlton was transformed from death row inmate to well loved family member. From day one at his foster home, Carlton has been a well mannered, happy, affectionate house guest. He is perfectly housetrained and crate trained (although there is no need to crate him since he is a consistently well behaved boy) and has fit in seamlessly with everyone.
Carlton loves everything and everybody. He ignores the cats and bird (much to the joy of the cats and bird) and plays happily with the other dogs. His foster family includes a 14 week old puppy, and Carlton is incredibly gentle with her, even sharing his chew bone so they can chew on it together. When Carlton yawns, the puppy will sometimes put her head in his mouth and Carlton will not close his mouth until the pup has removed herself. He has a great time playing with the adult dogs and loves treats, chew toys and rawhides. Carlton is also good with children and is very gentle with his foster mom’s four year old grandson.
Having been a stray for awhile, Carlton is still working on gaining a few pounds so that he can reach his ideal weight. He has made a trip to the groomers where he behaved well while the mats and burrs were removed from his coat. He has a few thin spots where the mats were combed out, but in no time his coat will be full and glossy. Carlton has beautiful, unique coloring that includes a sprinkling of black spots on the white area over his nose. The result is a freckled, mischievous look.
Like so many unwanted dogs, Carlton was nearly a sad statistic. Now he is a happy, loving, collie boy who will make a wonderful, lifelong companion for almost any family. He will need a fenced yard and would love another dog to play with. He is remarkably quiet and exceptionally gentle with both people and other animals. Carlton just wants to be loved and is ready to go home.
