Post-adoption update: December 1, 2009
Since going to her forever home, Chloe has been transformed into Lassie. Her new family had another dog name Joley and the similarity between the two names was causing confusion for everyone. Given her beautiful sable and white coat, the Lassie name certainly fits.
Lassie has been transformed in other ways too. Her coat has grown out beautifully and her mane frames her lovely face and makes her look like a society lady decked out in a gorgeous fur coat. Prior to finding her forever home, Lassie had had some trouble with allergies that caused her eyes to run, but that has almost completely disappeared, probably due to a change in food.
Lassie and her new BFF Joley have completely bonded and are like two sisters – though unlike most human sisters, these girls NEVER squabble. Instead, they go for walks together, run in the fields together and play games with their human mom. Their favorite game is “hide and seek” where their mom makes them sit and stay and then hides from them. When they find her, their reward is a treat. At first Lassie just followed her sister, but now she has really gotten the hang of things and often is the first to find mom. It looks like mom will need to improve her hiding skills if she is going to keep ahead of these two.
Lassie loves to go for walks, though she is a little apprehensive about the herd of cows that she sometimes encounters. She always crosses the road and walks on the cow free side. Then, further down the road, when she encounters a field full of horses, Lassie has to cross back to avoid them. Her new mom is convinced that if she is ever attacked by a wild horse or runaway cow, Lassie will be the one who runs to fetch help.
Lassie’s new mom describes her as her “dream” collie, and it is obvious that Lassie has found her “dream” home. Everyone is looking forward to the first snowfall and to their first Christmas together.
Description:
War isn’t just hard on people, it’s hard on their pets too. When Chloe’s owner was deployed to Iraq, he wanted the best for his much loved collie, so he made the painful decision to surrender her to MWCR where she could find another family that would love her as much as he did.
Chloe has been raised to be a polite, loving, well trained companion. She has been well socialized with both dogs and humans of all ages and thus she is ready to play with anyone she meets. She knows the basic commands, walks nicely on a leash, is obedient and has good recall. She is fully house broken, perfectly behaved in the house and can be trusted alone for prolonged periods. She is just an ideal dog.
Chloe has a mild allergy which causes some eye irritation and is being treated with an over the counter medication that is helping her. The allergy and resulting irritation may be the cause of her unusually deep set eyes, a condition that may resolve itself with time.
Chloe is a beautiful collie, inside and out, and will make a wonderful, lifelong companion. Her previous owner’s sacrifice will ensure that Chloe and her new forever family will be able to share a lifetime of good times. Chloe’s sweet, well mannered nature would make her a natural as a therapy dog – perhaps visiting veteran’s hospitals: the perfect way for Chloe to give back to the owner who gave so much to her.
