Dear Santa,

First off I really like it here, but, Foster Mom has some funny rules. I am trying really hard. I mean come on, I have to remember to jump off the bed or couch when I hear mom coming. Do you think I could get a permanent home with a couch I could sleep on? And she makes me walk right next to her on our walks, which is nice, I am close for treats, but, sometimes I like to investigate stuff too. And barking is a major no-no here. I don't bark much, and when I do it is mostly just to help little sister when she is barking.  She has issues, and I just try to help. If we bark outside in the yard just once, we have to come inside. So you can see I have been really good.

Little sis and I play every night with chewbacca noises and playing at who is in charge. Also, Mom actually made me walk up and down the steps here to learn and I can do it, (I'd rather not). And I go into my crate every day to get my good-bye treats. Maybe for Christmas I could get my own permanent home? I really like men...can I have one of those? I bark and play growl when I get to play with one. I mean, Mom's are cool, but, Dad's are really pretty neat. I would especially like one that will throw a ball or Frisbee for me. So is that possible?

OK, it's nap time again, I think I will lay in the living room near big brother (He is the dog-in-charge here.) I follow him around and learn things.

I just didn't want you to forget me. Even though I am not in my 'fur'ever home, I hope you make it a point to bring gifts to foster dogs too. And maybe we even need it a bit more than the dogs that already have families to call their own.

Dante

PS: The video mom shot shows my face hair is all grown back in and you can barely see my scars now, I am much more handsome. The rest of my hair is growing back too.

Description: Dante’s name may make him sound like some sort of doggie gangster and the small scars on his nose may reinforce that impression, but in truth you couldn’t find a sweeter, more lovable collie. Before coming to MWCR, Dante spent some time in a shelter and during an attempted “jail break,” his face got a bit scratched up. He also had to be shaved on his front legs and on his fluffy collie rump due to some matting, but the fur will grow and soon Dante will be back to his sleek, handsome self.

Dante is a happy, happy boy who loves both humans and other dogs. He has lots of energy and enthusiasm, and sometimes that combination makes him a bit rambunctious. He gets excited when meeting new people and is working hard to curb his instincts to greet them by jumping up and mouthing. Because he sometimes can be too enthusiastic in showing his love, he will need a forever home that doesn’t include young children who could be knocked down or frightened. However, he would love to be around older children and would be happy to fetch his ball for as long as someone will throw it. He always makes sure that his foster mom has a ball in her lap, just in case the urge to throw one should suddenly sneak up on her.

Dante is well behaved in the house and has never had an accident. He will politely sit for treats and prior to eating. He has shown no food aggression with the other dogs at his foster home and is always ready to share, whether it is a bowl of kibble or a favorite toy. His exuberant style of play sometimes gets him in trouble with the resident collies, but he settles down nicely when they put him in his place. He has not been exposed to kitties, so we don’t know how feline-friendly his is, though his rough and tumble manner would probably not be appreciated by most cats. He walks well on his special leash and rarely barks unless excited.

Dante will be an affectionate, fun-loving companion for any family that is looking for a young and playful collie. He will need a fenced yard where he can run and chase his ball and would love to have older children or another active dog to play with. He will need a family that is willing to continue his education and help him learn to control his enthusiasm, but in exchange, this collie character will provide his people with a lifetime of love and laughter.
