Update: December 14, 2009 Well, Dolly is growing and while she is still petite she would now tower over her stuffed companion! And does this little gal love kids! Whenever she sees or hears kids she gets so excited she just wants to run and join in the games they are playing. Since kids absolutely light up Dolly's life, it is felt that any potential adopters must be able to satisfy her insatiable desire to be with kids. Ideally, then, she needs human siblings who will include her in their activities. As gentle as this sweet girl is, her human family can include kids of all ages, and Dolly says, "The more the merrier!"

Description: Hello Dolly!

This happy, fun-loving little girl is just as sweet as she is cute. She is a dainty little thing, not much bigger than the stuffed collie she is pictured with and gets along beautifully with everyone she meets. In fact, it was her love for people that got Dolly into trouble. Originally she lived on a farm and, in an effort to be nearer to her people, she kept jumping the fence to be with them as they went about their work. Her family was worried that she would be hit by a car or some of the farm equipment, so they brought her to MWCR.

Since coming to her foster home, Dolly has learned lots of new things. This is easy for her because she is a very bright girl, always eager to please and learn. She now handles stairs like a champ and lets her foster family know that she needs to go outside by whining. She willingly goes into her kennel if a bribe (spelled T-R-E-A-T) is involved, and she is learning that some things are more appropriate than others to chew on. She is still a puppy, however, so her forever family will need to continue to monitor her and direct her chewing appropriately.

Being a puppy, she still has a puppy's short fur, but by the time she is 2-4 years old she will have developed the full, magnificent coat of an adult collie. She likes to go for walks and is good on a leash, always keeping her nose to the ground, looking for new scents to pursue.

Dolly has lots of puppy energy, but it is not the full speed, holy terror kind of energy. She loves to romp with the other dogs at her foster home, and when she sees or hears children, she is always eager to join them. Dolly considers the cat a wonderful chase-toy, but is gradually learning that a serious hiss means “Back off!” Her favorite activity of all is jumping onto the bed of her 12 year old human foster brother to give him collie kisses and cuddle up. There is no avoiding her when she wants to play, and no alarm clock is as effective as Dolly when she wants to wake someone up. Too bad she doesn’t come with a snooze button.

Dolly is looking for a forever home that could include other dogs, dog-savvy cats or children. She is still a puppy and will definitely need to be with people who will play with her and help her burn off energy. She would particularly love to play with children, and if you have kids that are reluctant to get up in the morning, Dolly will make the perfect tail-wagging, nose-licking, furry alarm clock.
