Description:
Lacey came to MWCR from a situation where she had been neglected and not properly socialized. She is a very sweet girl, but she is now living in a world where everything is strange to her. Her coat had not been cared for, and it was necessary to completely shave her to remove the mats.
Lacey loves other dogs and whenever she meets one, it instantly becomes her new best friend. Having not been well socialized to humans and to family life, she depends on other dogs to provide her with confidence and stability. She is a young, active girl with lots of energy to play, and her best buddy is a three year old golden retriever. Her favorite human is a teenage boy at her foster home, but she would not do well with young, boisterous children. She also is good with cats, though she has a strong prey drive and once she feels more at ease, she may want to chase the kitties.
Lacey’s foster family is working to crate train her and to provide her with obedience training. She is also learning to walk on a gentle leader. Her forever family will need to continue her training and an obedience class will help her to bond with them while also helping Lacey to grow in confidence.
Lacey has an unconfirmed case of “collie nose” which just means that she has a pink area on her nose that will occasionally need ointment, and she should not have lots of prolonged sun exposure. She will need to have a fenced yard because her high prey drive may cause her to bolt without warning.
Lacey is something of a diamond in the rough, but the operative word here is “diamond.” Every day at her foster home she becomes a bit more comfortable and confident. This is a process that will take some time and patience, and the ideal forever home for her will be a quiet one without young children but with another dog that can help to show her the ropes. She is a sweet, loving girl who is working to overcome a very bad start in life. Bringing out the “diamond” in Lacey will take a little work, but this sweet collie is absolutely worth it.
