Description:
What do Elmer Fudd and Mickey have in common? They both hate those “pesky wabbits!” But unlike Fudd, Mickey is very good at catching rabbits, and when he does, it isn’t a pretty sight. In fact, part of the reason that Mickey lost his home was his inclination to stalk rabbits and horses on the farm where he lived. Needless to say, he is now looking for a forever home that does not include bunnies or similar small pets. He has not been tested with cats, so we are unsure if he also harbors ill feelings toward felines.
Aside from the bunny fixation, Mickey is a happy, friendly, easy going guy who loves to play with the other dogs at his foster home. When he goes for walks, he is very well mannered on his leash, until he sees other dogs. Then he whines and is eager to join them. He is also fine with older, gentle children. Because he is a shy boy, he would not do well with younger, more rambunctious kids who could frighten him.
When Mickey first came to MWCR, we noticed that his eyes appeared to be bothering him, so he was checked out by a vet who discovered that he had several stray eyelashes that were irritating his eyes. It was a simple procedure for the vet to pluck them, and in the future he may need to have this done periodically.
Mickey enjoys being groomed and was a huge hit at the groomers, with his unique coloring of mahogany/sable spots on a white background. He loves to be brushed at home too, primarily because he relishes any and all attention.
Mickey is extremely well mannered, fully housetrained and can be left alone without any danger of misbehavior. He is crate trained, though there is really no need to crate him. He likes to go for car rides and willingly hops into his foster mom’s vehicle. He knows a variety of commands including “sit,” “lie down,” “give paw,” and “quiet.” Unlike many dogs, when Mickey is told to “stay,” he takes that command very seriously. His foster mom says that when he is told to “stay” or “lie down” he absolutely will not move until he is released. What a good, obedient boy!
Mickey is looking for a quiet, forever home with people who will understand that as a shy boy he may take a little time to get comfortable. He would be fine with older children and other dogs. He really does need a fenced yard to prevent him from taking off in pursuit of “pesky wabbits,” but otherwise, he is a loyal, loving boy who will stay by your side forever.
