Post-Adoption Update     I'm writing this update to let everyone know being a rescue dog can be a great new adventure.

Hi --my name is Shasta AKA Molly and I have stories to tell. First off I wasn't too sure about the long ride to my (in Iowa) forever home, as they called it. When I arrived here I wouldn't get out of the car, go outside, or once outside, go back inside, but each day was better. Now I'm a pro at it.

My big new brother is large and I thought he would take my food and be mean...boy was I wrong! He has taught me many things including telling me he was from MN. Also, now he is my mentor and I follow him everywhere. If I bug him too much sometimes he tries to hide from me. He is called the fun boy and I'm called the fun girl!!

I do get called lots of names like little sweetie, sweetheart, princess, torpedo, and my favorite is wiggly butt.  I do this dance when I get excited and wiggle every part of my body and just can't stop until I get all the attention I want.  I even do this for the Schwan's man when he comes and give him kisses, and my brother Kasper steals his hat while I keep him busy.

I am little bummed about being kenneled during the day but at night and on the weekends it's all fun and games. I can watch outside from my kennel during the day and keep on guard for everything so I don't get bored. When they let me out I fly like a torpedo and can't wait to give kisses and dance. I could win "Dancing With the Stars".

I have learned new words like walk, ride, Frisbee (which I'm not good at), treats and now my Dad says "are you ready" and I start dancing because I know we are going for a long walk through the field to the pond and that is my favorite.  I get to look for rabbits, deer, and watch golf carts across the road. Sometimes we can't go if the coyotes have been around, but boy do I get excited when I see them and deer run past my fenced in area. They tell me when the corn is gone I will see lots of deer all winter.  I guess they come right next to the house or jump in my fenced area, so I'll have to be careful and try not to jump the fence in my excitement. Right now I just sit very still and watch for things to go by and if I'm patient something is always moving. The thing I don't like outside is the gunshots from the hunters. I get scared and jump at the door to get inside.

I did fool my new Mom and Dad on one thing -- I didn't bark for almost a month and they thought that was great -- finally having a non barking dog -- not so!! I have found my voice and I make it known now to them and anything outside. I don't get the no bark thing! Mom says that's why we live in the country.

My favorite things are sleeping on the sofa or leather chair, walks, car rides (now that I know I'm coming back here), laying on top of my dad on the sofa and stealing his snack, playing tug with Kasper, chasing rabbits, sitting perfectly for any treat that might come my way. Sometimes I do get a longing look in my eye, maybe remembering my past but I have decided I love my new family and I bug them just like a new puppy.

My hair is growing out from my old shaved self but I guess that was necessary and I'm going to be beautiful.  I love to be brushed and have baths. I have a doggie bath in the house so I can keep clean. My brother is too big so he has to go to the groomer to get his in the winter.

My Mom and Dad give me lots of hugs and kisses and say they have the perfect little family with me included because I'm such a "happy dog." YEA! So far I haven't chewed anything but I have learned from Kasper to carry shoes around the house if we aren't getting the attention we deserve. What do they expect? We sleep all day waiting for them.

My big adventures are weekend rides and walks on the U of  I campus and to a small town for breakfast with horses and buggies. We hosted a collie playtime at the dog park for 3 other rescue collies. Boy that was fun for us dogs, running as fast as we could for an hour, but the grown ups froze because it was snowing. I met really cool other collies and I told Dante (a foster collie) that he will find a forever home just like the rest of us.

I have included some new pictures (please remove my main picture because I'm sooo much prettier now) showing my new life and playtime with my family. I love it here and plan on staying forever. Time to lay in the leather chair and watch TV. It's a great dog life.

Happy Holidays everyone and remember all of us COLLIES need presents too!!

Shasta- "The little fun girl."
