Description:
Ollie is a very friendly boy who greets everyone he meets and is liked by others. He came into rescue as a stray, so to prevent him from wandering away in the future Ollie needs a fenced yard or supervision on a leash. He knows how to sit and stay, but additional training on recall and to learn new commands is recommended for his forever family. Ollie is not aggressive toward cats and takes treats very gently.
Ollie has a few traits in common with his Dickensian namesake, Oliver. Not only was his means of arrival into rescue similar, but he is also interested in pilfering food as his arrival at his foster home coincided with the disappearance of a half loaf of banana bread from a countertop.
While not generally destructive, he did remove the lining from a slipper that caught his fancy so attractive potential chew "toys" should be kept from him. Despite a few hijinks, Ollie is generally a well behaved young collie who is learning the ropes in a new environment and who responds well to his foster mom's affection and training. As he continues to adjust, his foster mom confines him to the kitchen with a chewie to occupy him when she leaves.
A head leaning on your arm or on your hands is Ollie's bid for attention. He also displays normal collie play and herding behavior such as nibbling and clacking his teeth together. This can look intimidating, given Ollie's bright white teeth, but it is an enthusiastic signal to the other dogs that Ollie wants to engage them in play.
Ollie came into rescue with Lyme disease and is currently under treatment with antibiotics. He was also noted to have a heart murmur, which was tested and attributed to an enlarged heart and early stage heart disease. This condition is treatable and the veterinarian said that Ollie could have a normal life as long as he is given medication. The condition doesn't slow Ollie down, as shortly after it was diagnosed he went running with his foster siblings.
All in all, Ollie is a fun guy who would love to be your buddy.
