Pawsonality for April 2010!!!
Howdy, folks, it's me....Sandy, and I am the Pawsonality for the month of April! Now that spring is here, I guess they want to feature a dog with an appropriate summer hair-do rather than one with a mop of fur that you can't do a thing with! So, consider me to be Lassie with a buzz cut! With my hair-do, I am ready-made for the dog days of summer!
So, let me tell you what has been happening in my life since we last spoke. I accompanied my foster family to the Minnesota Pet Expo in early March, and at first I didn't know what to make of it. I mean there were lots of people everywhere, tables all over the place and it was a bit overwhelming at first. But by the time we got to the MWCR booth, I was in my element! I got to be one of the official greeters, and it was just way cool to have all the people stop by just to see me, pet me, and even shake my paw! But let me tell you, being a greeter for 3 hours is hard work! There were some little people there too and they were a bit confusing to me. You see, I spent most of my life just around other dogs, and I had never seen little people before. I think I could really grow to love them though, as long as they are big enough to play with me, treat me with gentle kindness, and act respectfully towards me.
Another recent event in my life is that my foster family just adopted an annoying little puppy, and she is a real pain in the ... whatever! When she gets in my face, I growl to let her know that I am the boss. I never bite, nip, bark, or do anything to hurt her, but I consider it my duty as her big foster brother to put her in her place when she gets too pesky. I mean, she has to learn somehow, and I am as good a role model as any around here, so I just use my "you'd better behave or else..." tone of voice with her and hope that eventually the little twerp will get the picture. However, to show her that I harbor no ill feelings towards her for her puppy foibles, I am quite happy to curl up next to her when it is naptime.
I am fine with other dogs, but given my size I would probably be best with, at most, one other large dog. Cats are no problem, and older dog-savvy kids would be great companions for me as well. In short, I am a gentle, sweet, laid-back dog who hardly ever barks.
Every couple of hours I go up to foster dad's chair to get my quota of hugs. Maybe I need reassurance or maybe it's kinda my "pinch me" moment when I need to remind myself that for the first time ever I am living the good life in a house with humans right here in my midst! On occasion he scratches my neck and back, and then I get really goofy, as that is just the greatest feeling ever! I also love to have my cheeks gently rubbed. If this is a dream, I sure hope I don't wake up any time soon, as this is what life should be like for all dogs!
I don't do stairs, at least not yet, but our house here has an open floor plan so I exercise myself by running laps....well, not really running...I just walk in large circles around the stairway in the center of the house. I know the routine around here and after dinner I know that it will soon be treat time, and in my excitement I really pick up the speed of my laps until I am doing a slow trot, kinda like music that builds to a crescendo! After my foster parents finish the evening dishes, foster dad goes to the cupboard -- with me hot on his heels -- because that means it is DESSERT (AKA treat) TIME!!! When I'm sure he has my treat in hand, I run towards my private dining room (AKA my kennel where I take all my meals) and I am in my crate ready to get my Milk Bone.
I am such a well-behaved boy that I arrived here housebroken, even though I had never lived in a house before in my life! Pretty clever, eh? I guess that makes me something of a prodigy! Also when I first arrived here I was something of a champion counter surfer if I do say so myself. In fact, I'm pretty sure I would have won gold medals in counter surfing if it had been an Olympic event. However, I was quickly shown the error of my ways, and now I just gaze yearningly up at those tasty tidbits. I keep hoping that my foster family will get the message, but NO means NO, and I no longer try to snag myself a tasty snack.
I can be trusted with your most prized possessions, and never in my wildest dreams would I ever think about getting up on your furniture. You don't need to spend hours grooming my maintenance-free military cut, and unlike some dogs I don't feel like I have to bark all the time to tell you how I REALLY feel. In short, I kinda roll with the punches, sorta like that Rocky dude. I know the meaning of NO, and I learn very quickly. Does that sound like someone you could learn to live with?
