Co-Pawsonality for February 2010!!!
Hi! I’m Sasha and the first thing you need to know about me is that Rossy is my guy. I’ll admit that I have been something of a diva, but once I met Rossy, I realized that it’s actually love (and not me) that makes the world go round. He has taught me a lot about sharing and giving. Sometimes when we are just hanging out with our foster family, I will go and get a yummy chew bone and instead of chewing it myself, I give it to him! The first time I did that, no one was more surprised than I was, but I guess that’s love.
I know that Rossy loves me, but he also loves the little human who lives at our foster home. At night when the little one goes to bed, Rossy is torn between staying with me and going with the little boy. He’s such a sweet guy and he wants to take care of both of us, so I don’t mind sharing him. I have to admit, I like children too.
Rossy and I both came from homes where we had to live mostly outside, alone and away from our human family. It was really sad, so now that we’ve found one another, we want to stay together. But don’t think that because we love each other that we don’t love our people. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about love, it’s that the more you get, the more you have to give.
Rossy and I hope to celebrate Valentine’s Day by finding a new, forever family who understands that lovers like us need to stay together. By adopting us both, they will be getting twice the fun, twice the joy and about a hundred times the love.
Update: December 6, 2009
The calendar may say winter, but for Sasha it is spring, the season of love.
Since coming to her foster home, Sasha has experienced lots of new things and reveled in the caring affection of her human foster family. She has enjoyed teaching them how to lavish her with the attention that she knows she should have. She has had fun playing with the other dogs and she particularly enjoyed rough housing with the other foster dog, Ross.
Like Sasha, Rossy is young, active and playful. He has been the perfect buddy for Sasha, but somewhere along the line, their friendship blossomed into a lifetime bond. They run together, play together and snuggle together. They need to stay together.
Collies are exceptionally loyal dogs and once they have bonded, it would be unkind to separate them. For that reason, MWCR has decided that Sasha and Rossy should be adopted together. Although they are both young and boisterous, they love to play together and do a good job of tiring one another out. If you have room in your home and your heart for two sweet collies, Sasha and Rossy have plenty of love to share.
Description:
Sasha is a drop-dead-gorgeous, blue merle, collie girl who just assumes that her super looks and charming manner will bring her non stop attention from the people in her life. If that doesn’t happen and Sasha feels neglected or bored, she will remind her family of their shortcomings by finding her own forms of amusement. Sometimes this involves exploring the garbage can, sometimes it means nibbling on the remote control, sometimes it includes disemboweling a stuffed toy or a sofa cushion. Whatever the activity, Sasha’s training techniques have been highly effective and her foster family has been quick to learn what is expected of them.
Sasha’s short life has been filled with owners who didn’t live up to her high expectations. Her first was an elderly lady who simply couldn’t keep up with a playful active girl like Sasha, so left her outside in a fenced yard all day, every day. Sasha was bored to tears with this arrangement and made sure that everyone within barking distance knew it. Thus, she made her first trip to the shelter. Her next family tried hard to meet Sasha’s needs, but they also had a special needs child and there just weren’t enough hours in the day for them. Back to the shelter came Sasha.
Today, Sasha is living at a MWCR foster home and though her foster family isn’t perfect, Sasha has found them to be quick learners and is pleased with the progress they are making. They have several other dogs who help to keep her amused and she is particularly fond of Ross, another MWCR foster dog. Sasha and Ross love to run and play together, and because Ross is also a young, active collie, the two can rough house until they are both exhausted.
Though Sasha can be a bit of a diva, her desire for attention is primarily the result of her love for people. She hates being left alone and thrives on human attention and interaction. She is very bright and has quickly learned several commands including “sit,” “come,” “lie down,” “shake” and “let’s eat.” She has the most trouble with the “come” command because her foster mom often uses it at some very inconvenient times (like when she is racing along the fence line, barking at cars). She is fully house trained and crate trained, and her foster family always crates her when they are away, since a bored Sasha is a creatively destructive Sasha. She walks well on a leash using a gentle leader, rides nicely in the car and tolerates grooming well.
Sasha gets along with other dogs and cats though she does like to play rough. She is also good with children, but she needs to be supervised with young children because of her exuberant style of play. She knows no strangers, only new friends and she likes to greet them by jumping up (foster mom is working on this).
Sasha has decided that she needs to be very picky about her forever home. First, it absolutely, positively must have a fenced area where she can run and play. Second, it would be very good if it had another young, active dog (hey, Ross is available!). Third, it must be a home where someone is around for much of the time. Sasha can be crated for a few hours, but she is much too active to spend all day there. Fourth, Sasha is looking for a highly trainable, eager-to-please family that will keep her amused and want to spend lots of time with her. Finally, love. Lots and lots of love.
