Description:
Skeeter just didn't convey the right image for this handsome, long, leggy young collie, so now's he's known as LL Cool J. And cool he is! When one of the resident collies in his foster home got upset and grabbed his ruff, LL kept his cool and did not react or retaliate. LL is definitely a lover, not a fighter; he loves all people and animals that he encounters. LL has become fast friends with a puppy in his foster household and makes a cute noise like Star Wars' Chewbacca when playing with her.
As a young collie from a shelter with an unknown background, LL has lots of energy and a few things to learn. LL is very attentive and barks when he hears unfamiliar noises, but this should decrease with exposure and training. He has a strong herding drive and runs the fence as vehicles pass by, so it will be important to keep LL safely leashed or in a fenced area. He's fine when he's with other dogs or people, but when left completely alone he exhibits some separation anxiety and may become destructive. For this reason, LL's forever home should include at least one other companion animal. He generally walks well on a leash, but may be distracted or frightened when he encounters something unknown so a Martingale, no-slip type collar is recommended.
While LL is good with children, he should be supervised around young ones due to his playful, active nature. Except when he's startled or unsure of himself, LL is fairly quiet by collie standards. He's a good passenger in the car and willingly jumps in for a ride. LL knows a few basic commands, such as sit and lay down. He behaves well while being groomed, though he wants to see what's happening and may fidget if he can't. His big brown eyes melt one's heart when he lays his head on your lap to show his affection. LL likes to sleep on a dog bed or the floor and has shown no interest in jumping on the furniture in his foster home.
Overall, LL is a happy, friendly, good boy who will add a touch of cool to his forever home.
