Description:
Sweetie is the poster child for “When bad things happen to very, very good collies.” He started life as the “pet” of a puppy mill breeder, but Sweetie apparently wasn’t treated much better than his “breeding” counterparts. He suffered a horrific accident with some farm machinery that left him with broken rear legs, a crushed pelvis and a fractured spine. None of his injuries were treated, however, and he must have suffered terrible pain while they healed. Then, when the puppy mill was closed down, Sweetie was taken to an animal control facility where it was decided that he should be euthanized. It looked like his sad, painful life was about to end, when a rescue volunteer decided that any dog as gentle and loving as Sweetie should have a chance at a real life. She contacted MWCR and within days he arrived at his foster home.
Sweetie was immediately taken to a vet for x-rays and a thorough examination where it was determined that his injuries had been left untreated for so long that surgery was no longer an option. Fortunately, however, he was no longer in pain, and miraculously, he was still able to walk, run and play. His amazing spirit had carried him through the bad times, and now Sweetie has only good times ahead. His injuries have left him with occasional sphincter control issues when he sits, but his foster mom is working with his diet and is having very good results. She is confident that with time and patience this will no longer be a significant issue for him.
Sweet Boy is a little shy when meeting new people but he quickly warms up and shows his love for everyone he meets. He has a young collie, foster sister and when with her, he shows his active, playful side. When he is with his older foster siblings, he easily reduces his activity level and is gentle, respectful and easy going. There are no cats at his foster home, but there are several small dogs, and Sweetie is very good with them. He is also good with children and is just a happy, mellow, quiet, collie boy.
In his three short years Sweetie has suffered enough pain and sadness for several lifetimes. Now he is looking forward to a special, loving home that will lavish him with the care and affection that he so thoroughly deserves. One look in his soulful brown eyes and you can see that the pain of the past has been replaced by joy and hope for the future.
