Update: December 16, 2009 With each passing day, Woods becomes more and more comfortable in his foster home. He doesn’t like noisy gadgets like hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, etc. and barks his disapproval, but as he gets familiar with the object, he stops barking and accepts it. Many things are new to him, but he is always ready to encounter them and learn from them. He is fascinated with paper products and likes to grab books, mail, newspapers, whatever is within his reach. When he is told “no,” however, he quickly drops the latest object of interest and looks up as if to say “Was that wrong?” He would love to play with the other dogs, but doesn’t seem to know how. Instead he plays with his foster mom by gently taking her wrist in his mouth and trying to make her pet him.

Woods continues to seek out new friends, particularly men. Whenever he encounters someone new, he rushes up to get hugs and give kisses. He is just a sweet, sweet boy who loves attention, loves to be brushed and loves to be talked to.

Give this big teddy bear half a chance, and he will own your heart.

Description: Woods is a big mystery. “Big” because this handsome collie boy is a tall fellow who stands 26 inches at the shoulder with a thick, fluffy coat that makes him look much heavier than his 67 pounds. “Mystery” because though he was described as 8 years old by the family that surrendered him, Woods teeth, manner and behavior all suggest that he is quite a bit younger, perhaps 4 or 5.

Woods’ foster mom describes him as a gentle giant, and he is definitely more of a lover than a fighter. He gets along well with the other dogs at his foster home and allows his little canine foster sister to boss him around despite being twice her size. He is also good with older children, though his size might make him a little intimidating to toddlers.

Woods probably lived most of his life outdoors, but he adapted to the indoor lifestyle in the blink of an eye. The day after he arrived at his foster home, he was happily curled up with his foster mom and little foster sister, eating popcorn and watching a movie. And though he loves being with foster mom, he is even more devoted to foster dad and would definitely like to have a human male in life.

There are only a few things that Woods doesn’t like. He has a horror of squeaky toys (too shrill and noisy) and he hates snow plows roaring past (so he tells them off at the top of his voice). He also has an unhealthy interest in the resident cat and would probably do best in a home that didn’t include any of those tempting kitties.

With each day that passes, we learn more and more about this loving, sweet natured boy, and though we will never know his exact age, we do know that the family that adopts Woods will be very lucky indeed.
