Description: If he were a contestant in the Collie of the Year pageant K.C. would definitely be named Mr. Congeniality. This sweet collie boy loves everyone he meets. Although he was a bit shy when he first arrived at his foster home, K.C. quickly discovered that the world was full of fun and interesting people, dogs and cats. He adores his trips to the dog park and spends his time playing with the other dogs and approaching strangers to elicit pats. As you can see from his picture, he is also willing to let kitties walk all over him – literally. Although his foster home does not include children, he loves the little ones that he meets at the dog park and is always very gentle with them. This is one happy, lovable, collie boy!

Perhaps part of the reason that K.C. is so friendly is that his early life didn’t include many opportunities to meet other dogs and people. He came to us from a home where he spent almost all his time in an outdoor kennel and had very little interaction with his people or his fellow canines. In addition, living outdoors exposed him to ticks – lots of them, and that resulted in Lyme disease. He is currently on a 30 day regimen of antibiotics to treat the Lyme and two other tick-related illnesses. His thick coat was so full of burrs and mats that the groomer was forced to shave him down and though his buzz cut makes him look more like a shorn sheep than a collie, it has been a blessing in the hot summer weather. But don’t worry, fur grows, and by the time the snow flies, K.C. will be well on his way to re-growing his gorgeous thick coat.

Although his prior life didn’t involve living indoors, K.C. has quickly and happily adjusted to the indoor lifestyle. He is fully housetrained and very calm and well mannered. He doesn’t chew and makes no attempt to jump up on the furniture, so his foster mom can leave him alone in the house without any concerns. He rides well in the car, walks nicely on his leash and is such a quiet fellow that his foster mom has begun to wonder if he really is a collie!

K.C. is working on gaining a few pounds and is a somewhat slow and selective eater. His foster mom uses a little canned dog food to entice him to eat his high quality dry food, though he would clearly prefer junk food. He has microthalmia (small eyes), and though this does not affect his vision, his eyes sometimes water. His foster mom helps him out by putting a few drops of saline solution in them from time to time.

K.C. is about finished with his antibiotics and is ready to find his forever family. His good natured, gentle ways would allow him to fit into almost any situation, although he would be happiest in a relatively quiet household that didn’t include a lot of active children or excessively playful dogs. He would really love the opportunity to go to the dog park or for walks where he could meet new friends (human, canine and feline) and continue to perfect his role as Mr. Congeniality. If you are looking for a buddy, look no further.
