Description: Arye means “Lion of God,” but right now this little lion is more of a cub. At six months old, he is a gangly, teenager who is working to put on some weight and grow into his long legs. Arye and his two siblings were found abandoned at a church in Missouri, where a Good Samaritan arranged to get them to MWCR.

Arye is a smart boy who is obedient beyond his years. When he needs to go outside, he politely rings the bell that his foster mom keeps by the door. He knows a variety of commands including “sit,” “down,” “come,” “walk,” “ride,” and his personal favorite “treat.” He enjoys grooming and will sit very still during his bath and when he is being brushed. He rides well in the car, enjoys going for walks and is calm and friendly when meeting new people. Arye is crated when his foster mom leaves the house because he is still at the “chewing” stage, but he can be left free at night without incident.

Arye plays well with other dogs, but he needs to be fed separately due to some food guarding. He also tends to be protective of his treats and toys around other dogs. He likes to chase and rough house with the family cats, who do not appreciate this kind of attention, and he is gradually learning to leave the kitties alone.

Arye’s foster home includes a nine year old boy, and he and the boy get along well. He has not been exposed to younger children, but since he is a puppy, he might play too rough for very young ones.

Arye is an affectionate guy who follows his people around the house and hates to be separated from them. If his foster mom and dad are sitting down, he will come up and rest his head in their laps and give them that soft-eyed, adoring look. Although he is still playful, he is not a “wild child,” rarely barking and usually quite laid back and calm.

Arye’s ideal home would include either children to play with or an active family that would include him in their activities. He doesn’t require a lot of exercise, but he does like walks, a good game of fetch and a romp with his canine foster siblings. He would enjoy a fenced yard to play in, although in the right circumstances a fence would not be mandatory. Most importantly, this little lion cub is looking for someone to love.
