Post-Adoption Update: April 8, 2010
Joey’s new dad describes him as one of the “best puppies ever.” From the very beginning he was excellent in his housetraining, with only one “nervous” accident when he first arrived. His new mom had never allowed dogs on the bed, but Joey is such a good boy that she couldn’t resist, and he now sleeps there at night. He is a quiet boy who rarely barks except when he feels that his family needs to be warned about some strange noise.
Joey is as fast as lightening and a real social butterfly. He can’t wait to greet new humans or dogs and loves to play with sticks. His new family is building a five foot fence around their yard and they plan to host many neighborhood doggie get-togethers once it is complete.
Joey has found the perfect home and his new family has found the perfect dog.
| Description:
Is there anything cuter than a puppy? Well, not if that puppy is Rocco. Rocco is a 16 week old, 31 pound bundle of adorable. This little guy is a happy-go-lucky pup who loves everyone and everything he meets. He is great with other dogs, considers all humans his friends and would be an outstanding companion for children six years or older. He hasn’t met any cats yet, but given his friendly, good natured ways, we suspect he would like kitties too, particularly if those kitties enjoyed a good game of chase.
For a young fellow, Rocco has already learned much of what he needs to know to be a great family member. He is fully housetrained, but he still has a puppy-sized bladder and needs to go outside regularly. He knows his name and will sit and come on command, and he is working on mastering the art of leash walking. His collie herding instinct does get in the way of good leash skills since he likes to continually circle the person who is walking him. He is always ready for a road trip and will willingly hop into the car, where he promptly lies down and falls asleep.
Rocco came to MWCR from Missouri where he was found wandering as a stray. It is hard to imagine that his family never came looking for him, because this little guy couldn’t be happier or more affectionate. He learns to trust very quickly and loves to snuggle up to the humans and the other dogs at his foster home after a long day of fun and play. He is not particularly chatty for a collie and seems to bark only when the other dogs initiate it. His foster mom crates him when she has to go out, because though Rocco is a well mannered boy, he is still a puppy and sometimes makes poor decisions about what things to chew.
Rocco will be the perfect addition to any family that is ready to take on the long term responsibilities of owning a puppy. Although most of the hard work is done, he will still need guidance and consistency to help him become the confident, well behaved, adult dog that he wants to be. He will also need a forever home that includes a fenced yard where he can run and play and a family that will spend lots of time with him. Ideally, he would like to have another young dog or active children to play games with. In exchange for some time and affection, Rocco will provide his forever family with a bundle of love and a lifetime supply of cute and cuddly.
