Update: August 13, 2010
What a sweet, well mannered gentleman Santos is. He has charmed and delighted almost everyone at his foster home and has fit in without a hitch. The only exceptions to this rule are the resident cats who dislike him almost as much as he dislikes them. Still, in a cat-free environment, he would be a universal favorite.
Santos is looking forward to our cool Upper Midwest fall and winter so he can lie outside to his heart’s content. He thoroughly dislikes the summer heat and humidity and when his foster dad takes him outside for his morning “call of nature,” Santos gives him a look that clearly says, “When are we getting indoor, doggy plumbing?” On the cooler days, however, he is happy to lie in the shade, watch the birds and squirrels and smell the roses. He would really love to have a forever home with a fenced yard where he can lounge for hours, just watching the world go by.
It is obvious that at one time Santos was an experienced player-of-fetch, but like all of us, he has slowed down a bit. Today, after he retrieves the tennis ball a few times, he is ready to curl up by his foster family and let the younger dogs take over.
Santos loves to be brushed and is blessed with the type of coat that doesn’t seem to shed as much as the other dogs. He likes to stand by his foster dad and revel in the feel of the brush and the attention that he is getting. He is a sweet, loving and laid back boy.
Santos is looking for a quiet, cat-free, forever home where he can enjoy his well-earned retirement. A fenced yard would be nice, summer air conditioning would be great, and indoor doggie plumbing would be PRICELESS!
Description:
Santos has reached the age where he is ready to lie back and smell the roses. Although he is no longer a puppy, he still loves to enjoy the outdoors where he can lie under a favorite tree and watch the birds and the squirrels. He sometimes wanders about, enjoying new sights and sniffing new smells, but he has very good recall and always returns promptly when his foster dad calls him.
Santos’ background is a mystery to us, but we believe that at some point in his life he sustained an injury/trauma to his left side that resulted in partial blindness in his left eye. He also has a slight limp on that side and some very mild facial paralysis. All of this means that stairs are a challenge to Santos so he would love to have a forever home with as few stairs as possible and would sometimes appreciate a little help going up and down.
Santos is a sweet, laid back boy who is fully housetrained and has been left alone for up to 10 hours. He will go into his crate without any protest, but there is really no need to crate him, since he is so well behaved. He enjoys being groomed and loves to lie on his doggie bed and chew on real bones. Santos gets along with other dogs and likes children, but as a senior boy, he would ideally like to be part of a quiet household, perhaps with a retired couple or single person. He decidedly does not like cats and should not share his forever home with anyone of the feline persuasion, though another mature dog would be fine.
Santos is a gentle, loving boy who just wants to spend his retirement years with people who will love and understand him. Though he can no long run up the stairs or chase after the squirrels, he can still lie in the shade and enjoy the smell of the grass and the soft breeze in his fur. And in the evenings, he can curl up on his doggie bed and bask in the love of his very own family.
