Description:
Hi! I’m Hope, the new Pawsonality of the Month. They picked me because everyone says I’m full of it (hope, that is). Even when I was living in a lonely, boring, old outdoor kennel, I was still hopeful that some nice person would come and rescue me. The other dogs said I was crazy, but it turned out I was right.
Now I live in a foster home and get to stay inside the house as much as I want. I even get to go on road trips sometimes. The other day I went to a place called Petco. It was amazing! They have about a zillion different kinds of chew bones and squeaky toys. I checked out every single one. I also got to meet a bunch of other dogs and lots of humans that I had never seen before. Foster mom said I was very well behaved and greeted all the people and dogs very politely. I love it when foster mom says I’m a good girl. It’s more fun than all the chew bones in the world.
Of course, my visit to Petco wasn’t all treats and squeaky toys. It was a chance for me to practice all the new things that I’ve been learning. Foster mom has been teaching me things that will help me get around better. I can’t see anything out of my left eye but I can see as well as any dog out of my right one. I’m also learning that “wait” means stop and that “step” means there’s something in my way. Of course when I’m with the other dogs, I can just follow them around, but I like to be self sufficient.
I also use my other senses more than most dogs to help me learn about things. When I was at Petco, I used my nose to sniff out all the best and most interesting toys. I learned this from a game that foster mom and I play at home, where she hides something tasty and then says “find it” and I track it down with my nose. I also use my ears. Foster Mom says I’m super smart! She is also using a clicker to teach me things and when we’re all outside in our big yard, she wears a jingle bell on her clothes so I can find her even when she’s where I can’t see her. I think foster mom is super smart too!
Well, that’s me, Hope. Now that I can see as well as most dogs out of my one eye, I have all those other super-senses that I honed to perfection when they thought I might eventually go blind. There’s my bloodhound’s nose and my bat’s ears and my great big collie heart. The other dogs may call me crazy, but I know there’s a wonderful family out there to love me. That’s called hope.
