| Fence: | Hakim can go to a home without a fence, as long as his adopter will commit to always keeping him on a leash or lead, for Hakim’s lifetime, anytime he is in an area that is not completely and securely fenced. This requirement is in our adoption contract. |
| Spayed/Neutered: | Yes |
| Temperament: | Hakim is friendly, playful, affectionate, and energetic. He is also content following his foster mom around and sleeping by her feet. |
| Good with other dogs: | Hakim does well with the other dog in his foster home. Although he prefers to play tug-of-war with his foster mom over other dogs, he does like to play chase with dogs. |
| Good with cats: | Hakim will chase a cat that will run outside. He did reportedly live with a cat before, but he may be better suited for a cat-free home. |
| Good with children: | Hakim likes kids, and would do best with older children. |
| Housebroken: | Yes |
| Crate Trained: | Hakim is crate trained and knows the command "go kennel", though he would prefer not to be in a crate, and can be trusted to have free run of the house. He readily goes in his crate in the car. |
| Obedience Training: | Hakim has not had formal obedience training. He comes when called and knows basic commands like "sit" and "shake". Foster mom is currently working on "down". |
| Leash Manners: | Hakim walks well on a leash. He does tend to pull a little at first. Because of his back leg, his walk is more of a hop and his pace is kind of fast at first, then slows down. His foster mom breaks up his walks into shorter ones. He eliminates on-leash. |
| Car Rides: | Hakim enjoys car rides and will let you put him in a crate without resistance. |
| Activity Level: | Medium. Hakim likes to play with toys, play chase, tug-o-war, and go for walks. Hakim gets very excited when meeting new people or when foster mom comes home. He will bark and jump up on people. He can also be very low-key and enjoys just hanging out. |
| Barking: | Hakim will bark at people walking by and on bikes, other dogs, and squirrels. He is also very vocal when he is excited, especially when foster mom returns home! |
| Health Issues: | Hakim’s right back leg is not fully functional, possibly due to a past injury. Hakim will use it slightly to push off, but otherwise does not use it. He was examined by a veterinarian, and in the vet’s opinion, he is not in pain, and no further treatment is necessary. Hakim is still very active. He does not have any problems with stairs or getting around. He may need help getting up into a car sometimes. |

Hakim is hoping to find a home where tummy rubs are part of the daily routine - he loves them! He’s very people-oriented, and hopes his new person will want to spend lots of time together.

Hakim's adoption fee is $250.00, and he is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), has been bathed and brushed, etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).
