| Description:
Luther is a big, rough-and-tumble, collie boy who loves to play, loves other dogs and really loves attention. In fact, when Luther is in search of attention, he is a collie on a mission. He will slip his nose under your arm for a hug or swing his back side at you for a little butt scratch. His foster mom is trying to teach him to be a little more polite when asking for attention, but Luther thinks that any love is good love.
Luther came to MWCR from North Dakota where he was found as a stray and then taken to the pound. Because he has been a stray, it is highly desirable that his forever home should have a fenced yard to prevent him from roaming. He was quite matted when he arrived and it was necessary to partially shave him, so he is currently sporting a lion cut. But don't worry, fur grows, and before the cold Upper Midwest winter hits, he will have a glorious full coat. Luther is a healthy, well behaved boy who is fully house trained and can be left alone for extended periods of time without any fear that he will be destructive. He is also crate trained and sleeps there at night. He knows the basic commands of “sit,” “wait,” “shake” and “no” and he walks nicely on his leash without pulling. He doesn't dislike grooming, but he is an active boy who doesn't like to remain still for lengthy grooming sessions. He does some barking while playing outdoors, but he isn't a particularly chatty guy. Luther loves humans of all sizes and ages. No one is a stranger to this friendly boy. He is great with children, but because toddlers might be intimidated by his size and playful manner, children over the age of three would be best. He considers all other dogs to be his playmates and would really love to have another active dog at his forever home. He has not been around cats so we can't say for sure, but he might be too rambunctious to be a favorite with the feline set. Luther is a happy boy whose favorite things are treats and toys. In spite of his size, he is as gentle as a lamb when taking a treat from your hand. He also enjoys the crunching sound that plastic water bottles make when he chews them, and will play fetch with a toy until your arm gives out. Luther is looking for an active family who wants a playful, energetic dog to include in their activities. A fenced yard to run in and children or another dog to play with would be ideal. No amount of affection and attention is too much for this love bug, so get ready for a non-stop pet-a-thon. |
