Shep

9-year-old tricolor male Not good with Small Children

New to Rescue!

Please meet Shep, a neutered, tricolor rough male collie.  He will be 9yrs old on November 1st. He was an owner surrender, as his caretaker(s) moved.  He is a very tall collie – one of the tallest collies we have seen to date.  He is approx. 31.5" at the shoulder – the standard for a male collie is 24-26".  Shep is in pretty good health for being a senior boy.  A recent health check revealed that his blood work is in the normal range, and required a dental for an infection in his gum tissue.  He is slightly underweight, but is working on gaining some weight.  His current weight, at 91 lbs is too lean for his impressive height and adding 10-15 lbs (or slightly more, depending on how his age/hips hold out) will be good for him.

Shep does seem a little stiff in getting up from a long nap – which comes with age in humans too!

Shep is a wonderful, wonderful dog.   He does get along great with my foster cats/dogs (as long as they don't try to hop on him) and loves children.  Shep is Mr. LoveBug, – he loves to be near people, especially men, although he follows his foster mom everywhere too.  He loves to play fetch with his stuffed "baby" and loves to give tickle nips ears in play.  Shep is debarked, so his bark is rather raspy when he talks.  Did we mention, he is a wonderful dog??  Shep is slowing down in his age and doesn't really tolerate that fast/obnoxious young dog well (or small children) and really would do best in a low key environment.

If someone is looking for a senior companion, well Shep will be the perfect keeper boy!

Shep is being fostered in Onalaska, WI
