Description: It is not only humans who are suffering in our struggling economy. As people lose their homes, they often are forced to move into housing that will not allow their pets. When Lex’s family lost their home, they also lost their loving buddy who had been a part of their household since he was only eight weeks old.

Lex has adjusted well to his foster home, but is still a little confused as to why he is no longer with the only family he had ever known. He is an extremely loving boy who shadows his foster mom everywhere and just devours attention. He loves people and is extremely gentle with all humans, though he becomes nervous around very young and boisterous children. He is particularly uneasy around crying babies and will run and hide. For this reason it would be best for Lex if his forever home did not include children under the age of about five. He loves the six year old girl at his foster home and one of his favorite things is to cuddle up with her.

Lex is an alpha boy who tries to dominate any other dog in his domain. He is determined to prevent them for being around his people, and since he has no interest in canine companionship or play, he would make an ideal “only” dog. He should definitely not be in a home that includes another young, playful dog, though he might get along with a laid back, submissive, older one.

Lex is fully housetrained and house safe. He is well mannered and chews only his toys and chew bones, though he will sample any tasty snacks that are left within reach on the counter. He knows a variety of commands including: sit, no, stay, lie down, shake and down. He has excellent recall and rides well in the car. When on a leash he will pull and wander about, but he is highly trainable and with a few corrections will walk appropriately. He is also crate trained.

Although Lex shows no interest in playing with other dogs, he does love to play fetch with his people. If you’ll throw it, he’ll fetch it! For this reason, a fenced yard would be highly desirable, since he does not like to be on a tie-out. He is a quiet boy who pays no attention to the neighbor’s dogs, even when they are barking. He also ignores cats, bunnies and squirrels. In many ways, Lex has a one track mind: loving his people.

This big, handsome, collie boy is looking for a forever home that will make him the center of their world, because they will definitely be the center of his. He would love gentle children who are beyond the toddler stage or would also be happy in an adult only family. He would be great in a one dog household and would provide his people with enough love for six dogs! If you have a place in your heart for this four legged victim of the recession, Lex will be your life-long, devoted friend.
