Description: No one would blame Maddy if she had a chip on her shoulder, as she's known some very tough times and had at least 3 owners in her 7 years.  But despite experiencing neglect and inconsistent care at times, Maddy is a sociable, friendly, playful collie who loves the people, dogs and cats that she meets and she has a special fondness for children.

Maddy is well-behaved and trustworthy.  She is perfectly housebroken and does not need to be crated when left alone.  She tolerates grooming and knows several basic commands.  She walks well on a leash.  She may bark at dogs who walk past the house and she has been known to raid the garbage, if it's accessible to her.  She doesn't like vacuum cleaner noise, but otherwise is generally easy-going.  Maddy likes to select toys from the toy box and carry them around the house.  She will retrieve and can play a good game of fetch, but these games could aggravate her hip dysplasia and spondylosis, so should be avoided.

Maddy's special connection with children became apparent when a child in her foster family recently was frightened.  Maddy stayed by the boy's side and slept next to his bed all night to comfort him.  Her foster family nicknamed Maddy "Mary Poppins" based on her good behavior and her special way with kids.  Maddy also was calm and tolerant recently when a toddler pulled her hair.  When she sees kids, she wants to play with them.

Maddy has a touch of arthritis.  As a result, she needs to lose a few pounds to reduce the pressure on her hips.  Otherwise, her foster mom describes her as perfect in every important way, with big brown eyes that will melt even the coldest heart.  If ever a dog ever deserved a stable situation where she received lots of love and care, it would be Maddy.  She deserves to be pampered and spoiled and would follow you to the ends of the earth. She loves to go wherever you go and rides great in car, but should not go to a home where she would be by herself for long periods of time.
