Interview with Muncie – This Week's Featured Collie!

Questions Answers
What is your favorite treat? In my first home with 5 little children, I didn’t get too many treats. My new foster mom gives me a bacon flavor treat, but boy do I have to work for it!  She makes me sit, lay down and come.  I get one treat every time I listen and respond correctly to her commands.  I am working on getting that 4th treat—‘give paw’, but every time I reach my paw up, I loose my balance and fall down, OK, so I’m a bit clumsy.   For all that work I get a kiss on my long, but pretty nose.
How do you feel about toys? JOY, JOY, JOY.  Toys are the reason to live for, right?  They say, he who has the most toys ‘in the end’ wins, right?  I don’t know about ‘in the end,’ but I can tell you my current stash includes 4 ‘squeakers’ and one green blankie (blanket).  The funnest part about my toys:   (1) sharing them with other fur friends, then chasing each other around the yard.  (2) The fun part with my human friends are playing tug.  Nothing completes a good day of fun like a final game of tug.  (3) Getting that toy into my big mouth and whacking it so hard from one side to the next, it feels like I’m going to break my neck, but it’s just so much fun seeing the reactions from my foster parents.  I enjoy providing them with the free entertainment.
Rate the following areas as the best for a good scratch by your foster humans: (Rating from one to four "paws") Behind ears? YES, this is a definitely go go go.

Belly? as I’m a little shy with laying on my back, this may improve over time.

Under chin?

Big fluffy rear end? Excuse me, my hind end is not big, it’s just the right size, no cellulite whatsoever. Over to each side, and right below my hips, I have these two spots that will bring me to a complete halt if scratched properly.
What are your 'pet' peeves? Bunnies and cats, as you see, it becomes my entire responsibility in life, and I take my responsibilities VERY seriously,  to catch them.
Do you kiss on the first date? Actually no, it’s taken my new foster mom almost four weeks to be able to kiss my nose.  Those little kids in my first home, as I recall, they were kinda rough with me, so I’m a little skittish about people lavishing me with too much mush, I’m afraid they are going to fall on me, so I move quickly out of the way.  My new foster mom is very solid on her feet, she hasn’t fallen on me once, so I’m OK with her giving me a few kisses on my nose.
Would you rather - go for a walk with my human?
Play chase with some doggie friends? Nap on the couch, rug or dog bed?
Other?
Would you rather - go for a walk with my human? This is indeed, a very good question.  I’m a really fun guy, and I love being cheerful and playing with humans.  I’ve heard my new foster parents comment that I’m just a ‘champion’ when it comes to walking nicely beside them.  We walk 3 miles down the country road every day, sometimes twice a day if it’s really nice outside.  The only trouble I have is figuring out who to stand next to, so I stand right between the two of them.  At first they used their 6 foot lead to make sure I stayed by them, then we practiced in the yard.  Within 1 week, I was able to prove to them that I didn’t need the lead at all.

Play chase with some doggie friends?  My current foster fur friend is Babe.  She’s 5 and a collie too.  When she first met me, she wasn’t sure she liked me, she’s the ‘alpha’ type, if you know what I mean… the "top dog" type.  I know I’m quite a handsome guy, but I’m not all about looks, my character counts too! Once I used my charms and good humor to warm up to her, the two of us became very best friends.  The trick is, I just let her have her way most of the time, I’m more submissive than she is.  It all works out just fine, there’s been a time or two when I had to put my foot down, but usually I let her have her own way.   We are two peas in a pod when it comes to exploring the yard and going on walks. She isn’t as good staying ‘with the group’ as I am and she is always getting yelled at.   NOT ME, I’M THE RESPONSIBLE ONE, I get the ‘Oh Muncie, you are the best dog’ feedback and oh do I love that!   I "talk" when I’m really happy, I think humans like that to a certain degree.  When they have had enough of me talking, they tell me to quiet down, and I do what I’m told, I like to make my life simple.   Since I’m a pretty big guy (25” high at my shoulders) and about 85-90 lbs,  My legs are very long and boy-oh-boy CAN I RUN!  I’ve also heard my foster parents say (and their visitors too), that my looks are very striking.

Nap on the couch, rug or dog bed?   Other?  Nope, no furniture for me, I’m much too well mannered to get up on the furniture.  I do enjoy my green blankie next to my dog bed and I like being in the part of the house that is cooler.  Currently, I have my very own backroom downstairs in the gameroom and it’s very comfortable and cool.  I eat and sleep there.
If you could choose any forever family - what would they be like? Fun, active and Patient, they need to give me a little time to trust them.  This is hard, moving around, always meeting new people.  I’m a one-family type of a dog.  I think I’d like having some bigger kids to play with, say around 12+, or maybe just two adults who will adore me.  I like being adored, and I’ll do everything I can to live up to their expectations.  Last night I sat for 2 hours while my foster mom brushed me, I got a little tired, but that nice soft brush felt so good, I stayed still until I saw the Alaskan Malamute take the Grand Championship.   I like lots of fun outside, but not being alone outside, another dog would be just great too, as long as they don’t pick on me like the St Bernard did, he even bit me twice.  Like I said before, I’m not an aggressive guy.  My health is great, I passed all my tests with flying colors, and the VET was impressed by my beauty, charming personality, and playfulness.  (I’m not reserved like some of fellow breed members).   I prefer dining alone, so I need to eat separately.  I had only had one in-house accident, but it wasn’t my fault, my foster mom slept in and didn’t get me out in time and since I was new I wasn't sure how to ask to go out.

I have heard my foster mom tell me that if she didn’t have her 2 cats, she’d keep me; however, someone taught me earlier on to chase cats and she has not been able to break me of that habit, so this is why she has to give me to another home.  She also told me in confidence, that it’s breaking her heart to have to give me up, but let’s keep that between us fur babies. Babe will certainly miss me too, I hope we keep in touch and visit each other occasionally if possible.

And there you have it, folks, straight from the dog’s mouth.
