Interview with Shep – This Week's Featured Collie!

Questions Answers
What is your favorite treat? I love table scraps (although, my mom says I am not allowed to have these, due to my upset tummy reaction!). Since I had to be on a no-human food diet, I pretty much will eat any sort of treat given to me.  (Although, if I am nervous - food is the first thing I will ignore!)   Once you get to know me, I will take treats easily.  I have been working at gaining weight the healthy way, so my mom tells me!
How do you feel about toys? I love to play catch with tennis balls.  I also love to get my human's attention by carrying stuffed toys in my mouth.  Playing fetch with stuffed toys is great fun too!  Soft, stuffed balls are probably my most favorite of all toys!
Rate the following areas as the best for a good scratch by your foster humans: (Rating from one to four "paws") Behind ears? –
Belly? –
Under chin? –
Big fluffy rear end? – +, as Ooooooohhhhhhh - that feels SO good!!!!!!!
What are your 'pet' peeves? Squirrels running in the yard, when I am inside the house!  Big trucks, I want to chase and catch them (but my mom won't let me) - running children, as sometimes they are not careful and may fall on me (that is scary!).
Do you kiss on the first date? No, as I save kisses for someone really special, once I get to know them.
Would you rather - go for a walk with my human?
Play chase with some doggie friends?
Nap on the couch, rug or dog bed?
Other?
I am pretty easy going.  I like to walk with my humans, play with my siblings (both human and furry).  Napping on the futon - that rocks!  (although, I do like to lay in front of the doorways - have to protect the homestead, ya know).
If you could choose any forever family - what would they be like? I would like a family that is patient and kind, one that doesn't mind an elderly dog attitude.  Some days I don't move as fast as the younger furr ones, some days I just plain do not feel like doing much.  I want someone that will love me for who I am and what I can offer them in my last few years - companionship, unconditional love and most of all, just plain me.  I love to be around human children, however, I am very cautious when they run and play around me.  If only they were more careful! I feel very protective around them as well -  I must herd and protect children, must play until they drop! My life motto - Herd! Herd! Herd!  It doesn't matter that I am older, slowing down, I must go with my gut and HERD!!!  My favorite thing to herd is the UPS and FedEx trucks!  My, how they make me tick.  (Thus why my mom said I need a very attentive home, if I am outside without a fence boundary).  I am a loyal guy, once I feel secure with someone.  To sum me up, I am all about love and family!

Yours truly, Shep (aka - Shepherd) (written with help from my human foster mom, Kim)

And there you have it, folks, straight from the dog’s mouth.
