Title of Versatility Companion

Tasha, adopted through MWCR in 2001at the age of 4, has earned the title of Versatility Companion through the American Working Collie Association.

The American Working Collie Association is dedicated to promoting the working ability of the Collie. Originally bred as a working stock dog, the Collie developed a wide range of talents. The Versatility Program recognizes Collies that have proven their competence as versatile working dogs.

To earn this title, Tasha has earned points in the areas of Social Therapy work, Obedience, Herding and Soundness.  The Versatility Companion title requires earning a minimum of 5 points in 3 different categories.

As a Social Therapy dog, Tasha visits people in nursing homes and hospitals through Therapy Dogs, Inc.  She really enjoys these visits and seems to have a knack for knowing just how to approach a patient and senses what will make them feel better.

Tasha has been herding sheep and has earned several titles through testing and trials.  She is also beginning to work with ducks.  Herding is very much a team activity with her owner and is extremely challenging as well as rewarding for both of them.  In herding, there are so many factors which influence the activity, it is never the same thing twice.  The sheep may have a different goal than that of the dog and sometimes the handler gets in the way!  It is very gratifying to see a Collie work for that which they were bred.  Tasha LOVES it!

To qualify in more categories, Tasha earned her Canine Good Citizen title and receives points for having normal eyes.  (Many Collies have a condition called Collie Eye Anomaly)

Tasha continues to earn points for her activities and herds every chance she can get!
