Description: Most Americans would like to lose a few pounds and Sophie is no exception. This beautiful girl came to MWCR in a “pleasingly plump” condition and has been working conscientiously to improve her eating habits and her waistline. Her foster mom isn't sure how much weight she has lost, but it has made Sophie much lighter on her feet and more playful. She loves to dip and dodge while she plays, looking like an adorable collie ballerina.

Sophie is a joyful, friendly girl who loves everyone she meets. When she is in the park, she barks at the people she sees, not in an aggressive way, but in a hi-everybody-come-pet-me manner. She loves toys and playing with other dogs, and she even gets along well with kitties, allowing them to rub up against her. Now that she is more sleek and fit, she likes to go to the dog park and run with her canine friends.

Sophie is fully house trained and usually well behaved. She needs work on her table manners, however, since she assumes that all food is her food. She will steal from your hand or your plate, but her foster mom is working with her on this. In her previous home she was free fed, but now that she is on a diet, she gets her regular feedings with no snacks! Once she reaches her target weight and is allowed a few treats, she may be less inclined to “share” the people food she sees. She also has been known to give the occasional burp, something that is very out of character for such a petite, dainty girl.

Sophie's eyes are smaller than normal, a common collie condition, and she has trouble seeing things that are directly beneath her. Her vision to the front and sides seems perfectly fine, however, and she doesn't have any trouble in her day to day activities. She prefers a well lit stairway, but goes up and down steps without problems.

Sophie walks nicely on her leash and enjoys going for rides in the car. She still needs some help getting in and out of a vehicle, but as she loses more weight this will get easier for her. She would love to sleep on her foster mom's bed, but since she isn't allowed, she takes turns with the other dogs sleeping in the one chair in the bedroom.

Sophie is a happy, easy-going girl who will fit beautifully into almost any family. She would enjoy having kids, other dogs, or even cats to play with and has lots of love to share with everyone. She would also make a wonderful weight loss buddy for anyone who needs a walking partner to help burn up a few calories!
