Description: When you think of collies, you think of loyalty - and this is particularly true of our Robbie. Robbie is loving and devoted to everyone in his family. His foster home includes two adults, three children, several cats and another dog, and Robbie considers it his personal responsibility to make sure that they are all safe and well. When the family members are in different rooms, Robbie is regularly patrolling to check on everyone. The youngest child, a three year old, can run all day long, and even when Robbie is tired, he will run along with the little boy just to keep him happy. He is so gentle that even though he is a large dog, he is a great companion to even very young children. He is also thoroughly devoted to his canine brother and best friend, Buddy II.

Unlike many dogs in rescue, Robbie and Buddy lived their entire lives in a loving home. Since puppyhood they lived with an elderly couple, but then the husband died and shortly thereafter the wife had a stroke and needed to find a new home for her two, loyal friends. Robbie and Buddy sleep together and are extremely close, so it would be a real blessing if they could go together to their forever home.

Robbie is a big boy though not overweight. He is handsome, healthy and happy. Once he adapts to his new environment, he is thoroughly house trained, though he does not ask to go outside, so you will need to let him out periodically. He enjoys running free in his yard and doesn’t require a fence because he never wanders and always comes when called. He also likes to go for walks and is good on a leash. Although he was loved and well cared for in his former home, he appears to be completely unfamiliar with toys. When he first encountered a ball at his foster home, he was completely puzzled, though in no time at all, he was joyfully chasing it! He tolerates grooming well and is a fairly quiet collie.

In almost all ways, Robbie is the perfect collie: mellow, loving, loyal and extremely gentle. He gets along with everyone and is well behaved both indoors and out. His only quirk is that he will not climb stairs. His foster mom is able to coax him up and down the two or three steps from the garage to the house, but he will not attempt a full flight of stairs. He is equally resistant to jumping into the car and must be lifted in. Once inside, Robbie seems uncertain about things, though he doesn’t cry or make a fuss. According to his foster mom, he once hopped into the driver’s seat and refused to budge. Perhaps he just wants to drive!

Robbie is one of those perfect dogs who will fit beautifully into almost any home. Though he does need to live somewhere without lots of stairs, he doesn’t need a fenced yard. He gets along with cats, dogs, men, women and children of all ages. He is a big boy with a big heart to match. His dearest wish is to find a home that will also have room for his lifelong friend Buddy, and since these guys are so sweet and well behaved, two dogs will really be no more trouble than one!
